DEFINITION OF SMI

SMIs   stands for “Small and Medium Industries”.
SMEs
stands for “Small and Medium Enterprises”.

These groupings are decided based on EITHER

  • the number of people a business employs OR
  • on the total sales or revenue generated by a business in a year.

SMI company is a company with:

  1. Full-time employees not exceeding 150
  2. Annual sales turnover of not exceeding RM25 million.
  3. Incorporated under the Companies Act 1965,
  4. Involved in the manufacturing sector.  

SMI Comprises of :

Small scale company

 

A company with an annual sales turnover of less than RM 10 million and not more than 50 employees.

 

Medium scale company

 

A company with an annual sales turnover between RM 10 million to RM 25 million and has between 51 to 150 full-time employees.
