Malaysian Brand Promotion Grant (BPG)

1. OBJECTIVE

The objective of the Brand Promotion Grant (BPG) is to develop and promote in the international market, brand names of products and services owned by Malaysian companies.

2. FORM OF GRANT

Companies can obtain a 50% matching grant on the approved cost of the activities related to brand development and promotion subject to a maximum grant of RM 2 million per company. The grant will be given on a reimbursement basis. To encourage companies to promote the brand overseas, not more than 10% of the total grant approved should be spent on domestic promotion of the brand.

3. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

To be eligible for the grant companies must fulfill the following conditions:-

  • The company is incorporated under the Companies Act 1965
  • Have an annual sales turnover not exceeding RM 250 million
    (based on the latest financial report) with at least 20% of the sales turnover derived from exports
  • At least 60% equity is owned by Malaysians
  • Involved in the promotion of products and services originating from Malaysia

Company or its holding company owns the brand and is the registered owner of the trademark duly registered in any country and has rights to it.

4. ELIGIBLE EXPENSES

The grant will cover the cost of developing and promoting only one brand per company. Companies can apply for the grant for the following expenses involved in brand development and promotion:-

  • Developing a brand strategy and marketing plan for the company
  • Trademark/patent/copyright registration fees
  • Advertising & Promotion which should not exceed 50% of the overall expenses for brand development and promotion
  • Promotional materials including catalogues, brochures, display units, signages point of sales materials
  • Cost of conducting brand research including brand awareness, brand acceptance, market share of brand
  • Expenses incurred in designing, redesigning and improving product
    packaging and labeling
  • Professional fees to manage the promotion of the brand

Other costs related to development and promotion of the brand as appropriate to the nature of the company's products and services.

5. APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Comprehensive proposal for the development and promotion of the brand including:-

  • Background of the brand, the brand concept, its values, current market position and projection and present export sales as well as projections for the brand
  • How the brand will benefit the company and country
  • Resources allocated to the brand development and promotion strategy
  • Key Performance Indicators to measure the brand performance based on
    intended marketing strategies

-Business and Marketing Plans for 2 years

  • Marketing strategies to penetrate the target markets
  • Media Communication Plan
  • Allocation of company's financial resources
  • Projected sales

Companies are encouraged to apply for the matching grant at least three months before undertaking the activity. Grants approved is based on the projected spending over the next 2 years.

All claims for reimbursement must be submitted on a quarterly basis based on receipts or invoices as proof of spending.

All receipts and invoices must be certified by an auditor.
